Materials: Sterling silver, glass bead

I chose to explore the dichotomy between magic and logic. I constructed my ring out of 20 gauge sterling silver. The ring is in the shape of a Ouija board  planchette. The front side is smooth and contains a bead that my grandma brought back from Italy. This side represents the maternal, metaphysical  influences in my life. The back side is roller printed with a grid pattern to represent the paternal, logical influences in my life. I am ruled by femininity,  gut feelings, and emotions. I’m a “believer” in magic, spirituality, and leading from the heart. I wanted my ring to explore these two sides of reality– most  people either lean towards one perspective on life. The bead on the magic side of the ring represents my personal preference for that attitude towards life.  Although I do not operate with an emphasis on logic, I wanted to include it within the ring as having equal importance. This is because I value balance,  openness, and the opinions of those who are around me. Magic and logic,  placed on opposite sides of the ring, represent the flip sides of life. It can also  be interpreted as the “spiritual/ underworld” and the “real world” that we exist in on planes of time, reason, and logic.
